  • ICAO had declared International Civil Aviation Day in 1994 on the occasion of its 50th anniversary.

International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO):

  • ICAO is a specialized agency of the United Nations, established in 1944 to manage the governance and administration of the Convention on International Civil Aviation (Chicago Convention) by States.
  • ICAO's headquarter is located in the Quartier International in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
  • Currently, ICAO has 193 members. India is also a member of ICAO.
  • The Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation was signed on December 7, 1944. Therefore, ICAO is also called the Chicago Convention.
  • One of the objectives of ICAO is to promote the planning and development of international air transport, so as to ensure the safe and orderly growth of international civil aviation in the world.
