The Henley Passport Index 2024 was released by Henley & Partners, a global citizenship and residency consultancy, which evaluated passports of 199 countries.

Most powerful passport:

  • A total of 6 countries across the world have secured top positions in the 2024 Henley Passport Index.
  • The countries with the most powerful passports in the world include France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan and Singapore.
  • Passports from all these countries provide visa-free access to 194 destinations.
  • Japan and Singapore have retained their positions which they had held for the last five years.
  • South Korea, Finland and Sweden are second in this list. These three countries facilitate visa-free access to 193 countries.
  • Austria, Denmark, Ireland and the Netherlands are in third place. These countries facilitate visa-free travel to 192 countries.
  • The ranking of the United Kingdom has climbed two places from 6th place last year to 4th place this year.
  • Switzerland's name is in fifth place on the list.
  • America is in seventh place on this list.

Least powerful passport:

  • The world's least powerful passport is from Afghanistan. It is ranked 104th with a reach of 28 countries.
  • This is followed by Syria (103), Iraq (102), Pakistan (101) and Yemen (100).

India's rank:

  • India ranks 80th in the 2024 Henley Passport Index.
  • India's passport facilitates visa-free access to 62 countries.
  • India is ranked 80th along with Uzbekistan.
  • Last year, India was ranked 85th.
  • Places like Thailand, Indonesia, Mauritius, Sri Lanka and Maldives can be visited with an Indian passport.

  • It calculates passport rankings based on specialised and official data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
  • The index considers the number of destinations where passport holders can travel without a prior visa.
  • The index relies entirely on data from the International Air Transport Association to determine its rankings.

  • Visa-free entry means that citizens of some countries do not need to obtain a visa in advance, they can enter another country without a visa.
