First Khelo India Para Games 2023: Haryana on top with 105 medals

The first Khelo India Para Games (KIPG) 2023 concluded on 17 December in New Delhi. Haryana topped the KIPG with a total of 105 medals including 40 gold, 39 silver and 26 bronze.

KIPG 2023 was organised from 10 to 17 December in New Delhi. Around 1,450 para-athletes from across the country participated in KIPG.

Important facts about the first Khelo India Para Games (KIPG) 2023:

A total of 7 sports competitions were organised in the first Khelo India Para Games. Mainly these are - Para Athletics, Para Shooting, Para Archery, Para Football, Para Badminton, Para Table Tennis and Para Weightlifting.
These seven games were organised in three stadiums of Sports Authority of India.
The top five states in the KIPG medal tally are:- Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Maharashtra.
In these games, Pranab Surma of Haryana performed better than his Asian record. Surma improved his Asian Para Games gold medal-winning performance of 30.01m with an effort of 33.54m in the club throw event.
Whereas in the same event, Dharambir's Asian record of 31.09 meters was improved.
KIPG 2023 is the latest initiative of the “Khelo India Programme” of the Government of India.
It also includes Khelo India Youth Games, Khelo India University Games and Khelo India Winter Games.
So far, five Khelo India Youth Games, three Khelo India University Games and three Khelo India Winter Games have been organised under the Khelo India initiative.
The main objective of the “Khelo India” initiative is to promote sports at the grassroots level in the country.
