The 16th World Future Energy Summit has recently commenced in Abu Dhabi, gathering global leaders, policymakers, and experts in the field of sustainable energy and climate initiatives.

The summit aims to position itself as a leading forum for discussion on global climate action, renewable energy, energy and water security, and sustainable development.

Key highlights of the summit

Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, the president and CEO of the UAE Independent Climate Change Accelerators, inaugurated the summit by highlighting the pressing need for substantial financial investments to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
She emphasized the pivotal role of blended finance, which merges public and private funds to raise the necessary resources for climate action.
She also called for greater international cooperation, stressing that no nation can tackle climate change alone.
Francesco La Camera, the director-general of the International Renewable Energy Agency, stressed the urgency of increasing renewable energy capacity to at least 11 terawatts by 2030.
Despite recording the largest increase in renewable power generation in 2023, La Camera noted that the progress still falls short of the required annual addition of 1,100 gigawatts, with the Global South being particularly affected. He called for stronger policy support and innovative financing mechanisms to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy.
Organized by Masdar, the state-owned Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, the summit brings together global leaders in sustainable energy and climate initiatives to exchange knowledge, ideas, and solutions.
Leen Alsebai, the head of the summit, described the event as a hub for actionable climate strategies, emphasizing the importance of collaboration, innovation, and investment in achieving a sustainable future for all.
