Every year August 19 is observed as World Humanitarian Day .According to the United Nations the Humanitarians are united by a shared mission to save and protect lives. They never compromise on humanitarian principles, and always strive to make the best decisions for the people they serve.
This day is observed to remember and honour the role played by the people and organization in helping people who are in distress .in suffering and providing them with hope .
On 19 August 2003, a bomb attack on the Canal Hotel in Baghdad, Iraq, killed 22 humanitarian aid workers, including the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq, Sergio Vieira de Mello.
To honour and remember the sacrifices made by the humanitarian workers,the United Nation Security Council passed a resolution in 2008 designating 19 August as World Humanitarian Day.
The theme of the World Humanitarian Day 2023: No Matter What.
Explaining the rationale behind this year theme the United Nations says that though the “ Humanitarian work is difficult and dangerous, but we don't give up on our commitment to overcome the challenges and deliver life-saving assistance to people in need, #NoMatterWhat”.
