Vishnu Deo Sai Takes Oath As The New CM Of Chhattisgarh

The new Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Vishnu Deo Sai, took oath on 13 December 2023 at the Science College grounds in the capital, Raipur. Chhattisgarh Governor Vishwa Bhushan Harichandan administered him the oath of office and secrecy. Vishnu Deo Sai, a veteran leader of tribal society, has become the fourth Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh.  As per the term, Sai is the Chief Minister in the sixth assembly.

• In Chhattisgarh, two Deputy Chief Ministers, Vijay Sharma and Arun Sao, took oath of office.
• Apart from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda and Chief Ministers and other leaders of BJP ruled states were present at the swearing-in ceremony of Vishnu Deo Sai.

About Vishnu Deo Sai:

• Vishnu Deo Sai is a prominent tribal face of Chhattisgarh BJP.
• Vishnu Deo Sai has been elected MLA from Kunkuri assembly seat.
• Vishnu Deo Sai has defeated his nearest rival, UD Minj of Congress, in the assembly elections.
• Vishnu Deo Sai was born on 21 February 1964 to a farming family in Bagiya village of the Jashpur district. Vishnu Deo Sai’s father, the Late Ramprasad Sai, was a farmer and his mother's name is Jasmani Devi.
• Sai's political career started as a sarpanch when Vishnu Dev Sai was elected unopposed as Sarpanch of Bagiya village.

About Arun Sao:

• Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao, who took oath along with Sai, comes from the OBC community and is the state president of BJP.
• Advocate-turned-politician Sao defeated his nearest Congress rival Thaneshwar Sahu in the assembly elections from Lormi seat by 45,891 votes.

About Vijay Sharma:

• Another Deputy Chief Minister, Vijay Sharma, is from the Brahmin community. He is the General Secretary of BJP in the state. Vijay Sharma has defeated influential Congress leader and current minister Mohammad Akbar by 39,592 votes in the Kawardha constituency.

• Ajit Jogi (Congress) - 01 November 2000 to 05 December 2003
• Raman Singh (BJP) - 07 December 2003 to 17 December 2018 (three consecutive terms)
• Bhupesh Baghel (Congress) – 17 December 2018 to 13 December 2023
• Vishnu Deo Sai (BJP) - From 13 December 2023 

Chhattisgarh Assembly Elections (2023):

• The Election Commission issued the notification for the sixth assembly elections in Chhattisgarh on October 13.  
• Elections were held in Chhattisgarh in two phases (7 and 17 November 23). Whereas the counting of votes was done on 3 December 2023.
• The Chhattisgarh Assembly elections took place for a total of 90 seats.
• In this, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) got 54 seats, Congress got 35 seats and Gondwana Gantantra Party got 1 seat.
