Chhattisgarh CM Laid Projects in Bastar and Surguja

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on August 9 dedicated or laid foundation stones of 2,848 development projects worth Rs 1,000 crore for adivasi-dominated southern (Bastar) and northern (Surguja) regions of the state on World Tribal Day.

The key announcements made by the CM included setting up Bachelor of Education (BEd) and Diploma in Education (DEd) colleges in all district headquarters of the Bastar division, which comprises seven districts, and building an indoor stadium at a cost of Rs 100 crore in Jagdalpur.

In Sitapur, the CM announced to set up a center in Surguja to protect and preserve tribal traditions and culture on the lines of the Bastar Academy of Dance, Art and Literature (BADAL) that is functioning in Bastar

Every year 9 August is observed as the International Day of Indigenous Peoples.

Theme 2023: The theme for International Day Of World's Indigenous People 2023 is Indigenous Youth as Agents of Change for Self-determination

Gond	Ghotul system of marriages.
Abuj Maria	Survive in segregation in Bastar.
Bison Horn Maria	Mostly found in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh.
Muria	Sub-castes of the Gonds inhabit the dense forest zones of Kondagaon Tehsil and Narayanpur Tehsil of Bastar.
Halba	Found in the districts of Bastar, Raipur and Durg in Chhattisgarh.
Dhurvaa	The Dhurvaas are aboriginal tribe that occupies Chhattisgarh's Bastar region.
Kol	Kol is a general name for the Munda, Oraon and Ho Adivasi of Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Tripura, Assam, Nepal and Bangladesh.
Korba.	They subsist in forest and hills of Chhotanagpur; the bordering area of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.
Kawar	Mainly the Kawar people are found in Raipur District, Bilaspur district, Raigarh district, Durg district and Sarguja district.
Binjwar	2 endogamous divisions, the Sonvaha Binjhwar and the Binjhwar proper instituted in large numbers in the regions of Bilaspur, Raipur, Raigarh and Sarguja.
