President Murmu Appoints New Governors for Goa, Haryana & LG for Ladakh

President Droupadi Murmu has appointed Telugu Desam’s Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju as the Governor of Goa, BJP’s Professor Ashim Kumar Ghosh as the Governor of Haryana, and Kavinder Gupta as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh on 14 July 2025.
In a communique issued by the office of the President on 14 July 2025, the President has also accepted the resignation of the current Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Ladakh, Brigadier (Retd) B. D. Mishra.
Professor Ashim Kumar Ghosh will be the 19th Governor of Haryana and will succeed Bandaru Dattatreya.
Professor Ghosh was a Political Science professor at Manindra Chandra College in Kolkata, West Bengal.
He was also the BJP State President in West Bengal from 1999 to 2002.
Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju has been appointed as the 20th Governor of Goa. He will succeed P S Sreedharan Pillai.
Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju is a leader of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) of Andhra Pradesh, which is a key ally of the Narendra Modi-led government in the centre. He belongs to the Pusapati royal family of Vizianagaram in Andhra Pradesh.
He was appointed as the Union Civil Aviation Minister in the first term of the Modi government from May 2014 to March 2018.
Kavindra Gupta will be the third Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Ladakh since its formation on 31st October 2019.
He will replace Brigadier (Retd.) B.D.Mishra.
Kavinder Gupta is a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Jammu and Kashmir and was also the Deputy Chief Minister in the Mehbooba Mufti government.
Constitution (Article 153) provides for a Governor in every state of India, and one person can be a Governor of more than one state.
The Governors are appointed by the President of India, and they can be dismissed by the President of India.
The Governor is the head of the government in the State, just like the President is at the central level.
They can be transferred from one state to another by the President.
Tenure
The Governor is appointed for a term of five years, but he/she holds the office at the pleasure of the President, and the President can dismiss him/her at any time.
