SJVN Limited launched India's first Green Hydrogen Pilot Project at Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station (NJHPS) in Jhakri, Himachal Pradesh. SJVN achieved a milestone by inaugurating India's first multi-purpose green hydrogen pilot project at the company's 1,500 MW NJHPS.
Uses of Green Hydrogen:
- The green hydrogen from the project will fuel NJHPS's High Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF) coating facility.
- Along with this, it will also generate electricity through a fuel cell of 25 kilowatt capacity.
First multipurpose green hydrogen production plant inaugurated:
- This country's first multipurpose green hydrogen production plant was inaugurated by Geeta Kapur, Chairperson and Managing Director of SJVN on April 24, 2024.
- In line with the National Green Hydrogen Mission of the Government of India, this Green Hydrogen Pilot Project of SJVN will accelerate the development of green hydrogen production infrastructure in the power sector. Along with this, green hydrogen is being established as a clean energy source.
It will produce 14 kg green hydrogen daily:
- This project with state-of-the-art technology is capable of producing 14 kg of green hydrogen in eight hours of daily operation. The produced hydrogen will be stored under a pressure of 30 bar in six storage tanks with a total storage capacity of 12 m3.
- The project will utilize a 20 Nm3/hr capacity alkaline electrolyzer to produce hydrogen. It will be powered by renewable energy supplied from SJVN's 1.31 MW solar power plant located at Wadala, Shimla.
Geeta Kapur also produced Rampur HPS:
- The SJVN Chairperson also inaugurated the first of its kind centralized operation of 1,500 MW NJHPS and 412 MW Rampur HPS through remotely operated Unit-2 of Rampur HPS.
- Rampur HPS operates successfully alongside NJHPS using a tandem operating system.
- Geeta Kapur commended the teams from NJHPS, Rampur HPS, and the electrical design team at SJVN Corporate Headquarters for their role in this achievement.
