President Murmu reaches Mauritius to attend National Day celebrations

Indian President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Mauritius on 11 March 2024 on a three-day state visit. During this, President Murmu participated as the chief guest in the National Day celebrations of Mauritius on 12 March 2024.
- Upon President Murmu's arrival in Port Louis, Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth welcomed him.
- President Murmu will engage with top leadership to enhance India's relations with the Indian Ocean island nation.
A contingent of the Indian Navy also participated in the ceremony:
- A contingent of the Indian Navy also participated in the National Day celebrations of Mauritius. It was accompanied by two naval ships - INS Tir and CGS Sarathi.
Bilateral meeting with Mauritius:
- President Murmu is also slated to conduct bilateral meetings with Mauritian President Prithvirajsing Roopun and Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth.
- President Murmu will meet the Speaker of the Mauritius National Assembly, the Chief Justice of the Mauritius Supreme Court and important Mauritian leaders.
India-aided projects inaugurated:
- President Murmu and Jugnauth jointly inaugurated 14 India-assisted projects. These reflect the growing breadth and multifaceted nature of New Delhi's vibrant development partnership with Mauritius.
- According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the President will also witness the exchange of important bilateral agreements.
- He is the sixth Indian President to attend the National Day of Mauritius as the Chief Guest since 2000. The state visit of President Murmu underlines the long-standing and enduring relations between India and Mauritius.
- The visit reaffirms the continued commitment to further strengthen bilateral relations in all areas and deepen the close people-to-people ties of the two countries.
- Murmu paid homage to Mauritius' leaders at the Pamplemousses Botanical Garden. She would visit many historical and cultural sites including the immigrant ghat. Where Indian indentured laborers reached Mauritius for the first time.
