North Eastern Handicrafts and Handloom Development Corporation (NEHHDC) plans to set up Ashtalakshmi Haat and Experience Center in Guwahati.

Ashtalakshmi Haat and Experience Center in Guwahati:

  • NEHHDC is setting up Ashtalakshmi Haat and Experience Center in Guwahati at a project cost of Rs 7.6 crore.
  • This Haat will have 24 permanent stalls, providing market access to artisans from all North Eastern states.
  • It will also have an artisan residence to accommodate artisans from outside the states.

Establishment of ERI Silk Spinning Plant:

  • NEHHDC is setting up an ERI Silk Spinning Plant at Integrated Textile Park, Mushalpur, Baksa (Assam), at a project cost of Rs 14.92 crore.
  • It is envisaged to provide direct employment to 375 persons and indirect livelihood to about 25,003 families.
  • Once commissioned, the plant will have the capacity to produce 450 kg of ERI silk yarn per day.

Market development in the area at a cost of Rs 14.92 crore:

  • Market development through digitization, authentication and traceability is being carried out by NEHHDC with a project cost of Rs 14.92 crore. It also provides market development covering 10,000 weavers in 7 states of the North-Eastern Region (NER) (except Sikkim).
  • It is estimated that this step of NEHHDC will increase the income of weavers by 20-30 percent in the next 2-3 years.
  • As a part of the project implementation, over 10,000 active loom weavers from the North Eastern States have been identified and registered.
  • NEHHDC has approved the Jewellery and Handicrafts Incubation Center under the ASPIRE Scheme of the MSME Ministry. Its budget outlay will be Rs 1.9 crore.
