The Supreme Court of India launched a new public information service called "Jan Soochna Seva" in Hindi on the occasion of Hindi Diwas (14th September 2026). The initiative is designed to make judicial information more accessible to common citizens by presenting important court judgments in a simplified, easy-to-understand format rather than complex legal language.
Under this service, the Supreme Court will release simplified Hindi summaries of selected significant judgments and orders, along with Hindi audio and video bulletins to help citizens who find it easier to listen or watch rather than read lengthy legal text. While the service begins in Hindi, the Supreme Court has indicated that it will soon be expanded to other Indian languages in a phased manner, allowing citizens from different linguistic backgrounds across the country to access court information in their own language.
The core goal behind Jan Soochna Seva is to make access to justice more inclusive and connect the use of Indian languages with the spread of judicial awareness among the public. By using simple language along with audio-visual formats, the initiative particularly benefits those who struggle to read or understand lengthy legal documents. This move reflects a larger effort to bridge the communication gap between the judiciary and the common citizen, ensuring that legal awareness isn't limited to those with a legal background or strong English proficiency. It also aligns with the broader push to give Indian languages a more prominent role in official and judicial communication.
