Dr Jitendra Singh Launches 5th Edition of 'Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar 2026'

Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh has officially launched the fifth edition of "Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar 2026" (SSSS v.5.0), a nationwide ocean conservation campaign led by the Ministry of Earth Sciences. Now in its fifth year, the initiative has grown into a large-scale people's movement inspired by the Swachh Bharat vision, bringing together citizens, students, youth, coastal communities, and volunteer organisations to protect India's oceans and keep its beaches clean.

Key Highlights of Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar 5.0

1. Week-Long Celebration: Scheduled from September 12–19, 2026, featuring nationwide engagement activities.
2. Events: Major beach clean-up drives across 100+ locations, human chain, cycling rallies, marathons, and citizen engagement activities.
3. Youth Engagement: Launch of the first-ever national Ocean Olympiad to foster environmental awareness among students and youth.
4. Digital Launches: Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh unveiled a dedicated official pledge on ocean conservation, the SSSS v.5.0 website, an introductory video, and a video on activities schedules as part of the SSSS v.5.0.

Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar 5.0 Will Be a Week-Long Celebration of Our Oceans 

India has one of the longest coastlines in the world, stretching over 11,000 km from the eastern to western parts of the country. Drawing inspiration from the Deep Ocean Mission, this year's campaign aims to expand the movement to a much larger scale than before. As part of the launch, several digital initiatives were also unveiled, including a dedicated pledge platform, the official SSSS v.5.0 website, an introductory video, and a schedule of planned activities. A major highlight this year is the introduction of the first-ever national Ocean Olympiad, designed to build environmental awareness among students and young people across the country.
