Kidambi Srikanth’s fairytale run in the 2025 Malaysia Masters Badminton Championship ended in the final with a defeat to the Chinese Li Shifeng on 25 May 2025. Kidambi Srikant is the first Indian badminton player in the 2025 calendar year to appear in any BWF (Badminton World Federation) tournament finals.
The $4.75 lakh prize money BWF Super 500 Malaysia Masters Badminton Championship was held in Bukit Jalil, Malaysia, from 20 to 25 May 2025.
Former world no.1 and current world no. 65 Kidambi Srikanth played in a BWF tournament final after four years. His last final appearance was in the 2021 BWF World Championships 2021, where he lost to Loh Kean Yew of Singapore.
Kidambi Srikanth, who last won a BWF title in 2017, had to play the qualifier to qualify for the 2025 Malaysian Masters.
He lost to the world no. 4 Li Shifeng of China 21-11, 21-9 in 36 minutes in the final match of the Malaysian Masters.
This was Kidambi’s fourth loss in five matches against the Asian Games Champion, Li Shifeng. Champion.
