Joint military ‘Exercise Lamitiye-2024’ between India and Seychelles

The Indian Army contingent departed for Seychelles on 17 March 2024 to participate in a joint military exercise ‘Lamitiye-2024’ with Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF). This exercise is the 10th exercise between the two countries.

Launch of Exercise ‘Lamitiye-2024’:

The 'Lamitiye' joint military exercise will be conducted in Seychelles from 18-27 March 2024.
'Lamitiye' means 'Friendship' in Creole language.
It has been organized in Seychelles since 2001. In this sequence, this is its 10th joint exercise this year.

Features of Exercise ‘Lamitiye-2024’:

'Exercise Lamitiye-2024' includes 'Indian Gorkha Rifles' and 'Seychelles Defence Force'.
'Limited War Exercise' is a biennial training programme.
45 military personnel from both the defence forces are participating in this exercise.

Objective of Exercise ‘Lamitiye-2024’:

'Exercise Lamitiye-2024' aims to enhance interdiction operations in peri-urban scenarios under Chapter VII of the UN Charter.
The exercise will promote cooperation and interoperability between the two sides during peacekeeping operations.
The exercise will also build and promote bilateral military ties besides exchange of skills, experience and simulated exercises between the two armies.

Highlights of Exercise ‘Lamitiye-2024’:

In this exercise both military sides will showcase modern equipment and technology. Also, in this exercise, both sides will demonstrate their valor and practice thwarting possible threats in a semi-urban environment. For this, both sides will jointly train, plan and execute a series of fully fledged tactical exercises.
The 10-day joint military exercise will include field training exercises, war discussions, lectures and demonstrations. The exercise will conclude with a two-day verification exercise.
