JNU among top 20 universities in world: QS World University Rankings

Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has released the QS World University Rankings 2024 on 10 April 2024. In this ranking, India's Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has been ranked 20th among the highest ranked universities in the world.
A record 1,559 institutions have been included in the QS World University Rankings 2024. For the first time, 64 universities have been included in it.
69 Indian universities ranked in QS Ranking 2024:
69 Indian universities have succeeded in making their place in this QS World University Rankings 2024.
Jawaharlal Nehru University is the highest ranked university of India in this ranking. JNU, ranked 20th globally, has emerged as India's highest ranked university for development studies.
Top 50 Institutions in QS Ranking 2024:
Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad has been included among the top 25 institutions in the QS World University Rankings 2024.
IIM Ahmedabad is ranked among the top 25 institutes worldwide for business and management studies.
Apart from this, IIM-Bangalore and Calcutta have been ranked in the top 50.
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has performed well in Data Science and achieved a global ranking of 51-70.
Ranked 51-100 globally in Petroleum Engineering.
Chennai institute ranked 24th in dentistry programme:
Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences in Chennai has also received a ranking of 24th globally for its dentistry programme.
India took important steps in the field of education:
According to QS CEO Jessica Turner, India is taking steps in the right direction to improve the quality, access and global competitiveness of its higher education sector. Despite the challenges it faces, the country is becoming a key player in the international academic community.
The recent rankings demonstrate India's growing research capabilities. There has been a 20% improvement in the citation per paper indicator and a 16% increase in the International Research Network metric.
In this context, according to Ben Souter, Senior Vice President, QS, prioritizing high quality, impactful research and its dissemination within the academic community is the next step for India.
There has been improvement in India's ranking compared to the previous year:
India's ranking entries and overall performance by subject have increased by 19% and 17% respectively in the QS World University Rankings this year.
A total of 69 Indian universities out of 424 Indian universities have made it to the QS World University Rankings based on subject. Last year, out of 355 entries, 66 universities made it to the list.
India is at second place in Asia:
In terms of the number of universities in the QS World University Rankings, India is the second most represented country in Asia after China with 101 universities.
Meanwhile, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS), Chennai, ranked 24th globally for dentistry studies.
