The Jaisalmer Desert Festival, also called Maru Mahotsav, is a famous event in the Golden City of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.

It is scheduled to start from February 22 to 24, 2024, at Pokhran village and is being hosted by the Rajasthan Tourism Department in collaboration with the Jaisalmer District Administration.

The origin story of the Jaisalmer Desert Festival has been passed down for generations and is quite interesting.
According to local legends, Lord Krishna once predicted that a future leader from the Yadav community would establish a kingdom on the Trikuta Hill. Centuries later, in 1196, Rawal Jaiswal, believed to be a descendant of the Yadav community, founded the kingdom of Jaisalmer.
To celebrate this incredible event, the people of Jaisalmer began organizing special events and festivities throughout the kingdom.
When the news spread that an ancient prediction had come true, these joyful celebrations became a beloved tradition. Today, this tradition continues with the Jaisalmer Desert Festival, which is held every February.
