The first research- based IIT satellite campus in the country will be established in Ujjain. This will be a unique institute of its kind in the country. 

Key highlights of the IIT satellite campus

  • A proposal to establish a satellite campus in Ujjain was submitted to the Ministry of Education for approval by IIT Indore in 2023.
  • IIT Indore's Deep-Tech Research and Discovery Campus (DRDC) is going to start soon in Ujjain. Ujjain will be a world-class research centre in future technology, which will be set up at IIT Indore's Deep-Tech Research and Discovery Campus Ujjain.
  • Ujjain Satellite Campus is an important project that will benefit students, teachers and industrial workers across India and especially Madhya Pradesh.
  • The satellite complex will house the Deep Tech Research and Laboratory Discovery Centre
  • Lab to Market Centre and diverse activities in the field of Astronomy and Space Technology. Students, teachers, researchers and the general public will get extensive benefits from it.
  • The proposed organisation of the Deep-Tech Research and Discovery Campus will support deep-tech research laboratories and discovery centres, providing new dimensions of research through translation and its application and lab-to-market centres. 
    • Which will also include startup culture and entrepreneurship.
  • IIT Indore is trying to establish leadership in advanced areas of research.
    • This will include high-level simulation, packaging, sensors, IoT (Internet of Things) and semiconductor device manufacturing, integration, communication technologies and related activities. 
  • The lab-to-market project will include laboratory- scale models, prototypes and products.
  • It will also focus on the mentoring of entrepreneurship operations experts and assistance and involvement of commercial experts to develop business -based plans for enterprise creation.
  • Organisation of monthly online and hybrid programs will be promoted to help in the skill development of the human workforce in high-tech sectors. Courses being planned include bio-medical device development, industrial laser and optics technology etc.
