India Bagged 17 Medals at Junior World Boxing Championships, 2023 Sport 2 min read

The IBA Junior World Boxing Championships 2023 were held in Yerevan, Armenia from 23 November to 4 December 2023. The Indian contingent won a total of 17 medals including three gold, nine silver and five bronze medals at the IBA Junior World Boxing Championships.

Gold Medallist Players for India in the Championships:

  • India's young boxers Payal (48 kg), Nisha (52 kg) and Akanksha (70 kg) performed brilliantly and won gold medals.
  • Payal defeated Petrosyan Heghin of Armenia in the final to give India its first gold medal in the prestigious championship.

On December 4, the final day of the championships, three other girls – Vini (57 kg), Srishti (63 kg) and Megha (80 kg) won silver medals after losing their respective gold medal bouts. 

In the boys' category, Sahil (75kg) and Hemant (80kg) won silver medals after losing 0-5 in their respective finals. 

India had sent a total of 26 member team in this competition. A total of 12 Indians qualified for the finals, which was more than any other country in this edition.

Women's Category:

  • Gold: Payal (48 kg), Nisha (52 kg) and Akanksha (70 kg)
  • Silver: Amisha (54 kg), Vini (57 kg), Shrushti Sathe (63 kg), Megha (80 kg) and Prachi Tokas (above 80 kg).
  • Bronze: Neha Lunthi (46 kg), Pari (50 kg), Nidhi Dhull (66 kg) and Krutika (75 kg).

Men's Category:

  • Silver: Jatin (54 kg), Sahil (75 kg), Hardik Panwar (80 kg) and Hemant Sangwan (above 80 kg);
  • Bronze: Alexander (48 kg)
