Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah inaugurated IFFCO's Nano DAP (Liquid) Plant at Kalol in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

Nano DAP (Liquid)

  • The Nano DAP (Liquid) plant in Kalol has been set up by IFFCO at the cost of 300 crore rupees. The plant has been developed in tune with the Atma Nirbhar Bharat vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • IFFCO chairman Dilip Sanghani said while one bag of conventional DAP costs around 1300 rupees, the farmers can get one bottle of nano liquid DAP for just 600 rupees which can be carried by farmers in their pockets.
  • The plant will lead to a significant reduction in imports of DAP and also will bring down the logistics and warehousing costs.
  • The plant will produce 5 crore bottles of Nano DAP liquid equivalent to 25 tons of DAP.
  • Nano DAP liquid formulation contains high levels of Phosphorus and Nitrogen, both of which are essential nutrients for plants.
  • The NP ratio of 1:2.5 makes it an ideal choice for better crop establishment and flowering.
  • Nano DAP can be used on all types of crops, including cereals, fruits, vegetables, oilseeds, pulses, onions, cotton, and sugarcane.

About Nanofertilizers

  • Nanofertilizers are nutrients that are coated or encapsulated within nanomaterials (size 10-9 meter), allowing for controlled and gradual release into the soil.
  • The application of nanoscale fertilizers can significantly reduce nutrient loss by leaching or run-off, while also minimizing degradation and volatility. This results in improved nutrient quality and soil fertility, leading to long-term crop productivity.
  • Due to their high surface area to volume ratio and superior penetration ability, nanofertilizers can be a viable alternative to chemical fertilizers. Furthermore, the use of nanofertilizers or "nano-biofertilizers" can greatly reduce environmental hazards.
  • These fertilizers can also boost crop yield by promoting seed germination, nitrogen metabolism, photosynthesis, and protein and carbohydrate synthesis, while enhancing stress tolerance.

  • Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) is a multi-state cooperative society that manufactures and markets fertilizers.
  • It was founded in 1967 with 57 members and has now become one of the biggest co-operatives and the largest fertilizer manufacturer.
