The chief minister of Himachal Pradesh Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced on 16 September 2023 that the state government will provide free LPG kits and rations to the people affected by heavy rains. They will get the free provision till March 31, 2024.
Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand were battered by heavy rain in the month of August ,which caused flash floods and landslides in these mountainous states. There was heavy loss of life and properties in the state . The Himachal Pradesh government in a notification has already declared the entire hill state as a "natural calamity affected area."
The chief minister said the government has also initiated efforts to relocate affected families from relief camps to more suitable rented accommodations and has provided financial assistance of Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000 for rural and urban areas respectively.
Earlier the European Union announced a euro 1 lakh grant to the Indian Red Cross to provide humanitarian assistance to the rain affected people of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
