The Government of India has declared 'Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, Jammu and Kashmir (TEH)' as an unlawful organization. The government has declared TEH as an unlawful organization under Section 3(1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
Allegations against Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, Jammu and Kashmir:
- This organization has been involved in prohibited activities to separate Jammu and Kashmir from India and establish Islamic rule.
- The group has been found spreading anti-India propaganda and engaging in terrorist activities to promote separatism in Jammu and Kashmir.
- The objective of TEH is to separate Jammu and Kashmir from India and establish Islamic rule here.
- This organization has been involved in promoting terrorism and anti-India propaganda to promote separatism in Jammu and Kashmir.
- This organization is harmful to the sovereignty, security and integrity of India.
About Tehreek-e-Hurriyat:
- Syed Ali Shah Geelani founded Tehreek-e-Hurriyat organization on 7 August 2004. It is a separatist organization.
- The objective of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat is to agitate for the so-called independence of Jammu and Kashmir.
Muslim League Jammu Kashmir Masrat Alam Group has been banned:
- On December 27, the Central Government also declared the Muslim League Jammu Kashmir Masrat Alam Group illegal under UAPA.
Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967:
- This law was made to prevent activities that threaten the sovereignty and unity of India.
- This law restricts the freedoms granted by Article 19 of the Constitution. Under which mainly
- Freedom of speech and expression,
- The right to assemble without arms and
- Imposes reasonable restrictions on the right to form an association.
- This law was amended in 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2019.
- Under this Act, the Central Government can designate an organization as a terrorist organization if it is found involved in the following matters:
- Commits or participates in a terrorist act
- Prepares to carry out a terrorist incident
- Promotes terrorism, or
- Otherwise involved in terrorist activity.
- This bill empowers the government to designate individuals as terrorists on similar grounds.
