The first Shaurya Vedanam Utsav concluded in the Motihari city of East Champaran District of Bihar on 8th March 2025, with an impressive display of the Indian Armed Forces' military might, martial arts, mass performance by military bands, combat demonstration by special forces, etc The two-day event, held in Motihari on 7 and 8 March 2025, featured a spectacular military display and an exhibition of the lethal weapons of the Indian Armed Forces. 

Who organised the Shaurya Vedanam Utsav?

  • The inaugural Shaurya Vedanam Utsav was oragnised by the Defence Ministry, government of India, in collaboration with the East Champaran district administration..
  • The aim of the event was to bring the Armed Forces of the country closer to the public and inspire the youth to join the Indian defence forces.

Who inaugurated the  Shaurya Vedanam Utsav?

  • The  Shaurya Vedanam Utsav was inaugurated by Arif Mohammed Khan, Governor of Bihar, in Motihari on 7th March 2025. 
  • The event was attended by Radha Mohan Singh, Member of Parliament and Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence,  Lt. Gen Anindya Sengupta, Commander of the Central Command of the Indian Army, and senior officials from the Armed Forces and government.

Military prowess of Indian Armed Forces on Display 

The Indian Army, Navy, and the Air Force displayed their modern weapons to the Public.

The Indian Army displayed its indigenously developed K-9 Vajra self-propelled artillery gun, Weapon Locating Radar (WLR) Swathi. the T-90 Bhishma Main Battle Tank,  BMP infantry combat vehicles, etc.

The Indian Air Force performed an impressive flypast featuring three Su-30MKI fighter jets, two AN-32 transport aircraft, and Chetak helicopters. 

The elite Akash Ganga skydiving team of the Indian Air Force performed a high-altitude combat freefall from 8,000 feet.

There was also a static display of the models of aircraft carriers, submarines, and destroyers of the Indian Navy and aircraft of the Indian Air Force.

 

About Motihari 

Motihari, the headquarters of the East Champaran district situated along the Nepal border, has historical importance. It is the birthplace of George Orwell, associated with Buddhism and the Champaran Satyagraha of Gandhiji.

  • It is the birthplace of Englishman Eric Arthur Blair, famous by his literary name George Orwell. George Orwell is the author of Nineteen Eighty-Four, Animal Farm etc.

  •  A 36 ½ feet high pillar, bearing the edict of Emperor Ashoka, is located in the Lauriya village of Areraj subdivision.
  • The pillar, known as “Stambh dharma lekh,” was erected by Priyadarshee Lord Ashok in 249 BC.  

Mahatma Gandhi 

  • Mahatma Gandhi’s first Satyagraha in India was held in Motihari in 1917, famous as Chamaparan Satyagraha in history.
  • A  48-ft tall Chunar stone pillar stands exactly on the place where Gandhi was produced before the court of the then sub-divisional magistrate on April 18, 1917, for violating prohibitory orders.
