Senior Marathi writer, thinker and Vice President of Samta Parishad Professor Hari Narke passed away in Mumbai on 9 August 2023 due to a heart attack.
70-year-old Narke breathed his last at the Asian Heart Hospital in Mumbai.
Narke was Professor of the Mahatma Phule Chair at Savitribai Phule University, Pune and a former member of the Maharashtra Backward Classes Commission.
Shri Narke was also a member of the Ranganath Pathare Committee, which was constituted to collect evidence to prove Marathi as a classical language.
Hari Narke has played an important role in better highlighting the thoughts and works of Jyotiba Phule and Baba Saheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar and in taking quick decisions at the government level.
With the death of Hari Narke, Maratha society has lost a progressive movement leader.
Maharashtra government updated and published the 1000 page book Samagra Mahatma Phule edited by Hari Narke.
The state government also published 26 volumes of Dr. Ambedkar's Samagra Vangmaya, six of which were edited by Hari Narke.
Narke was also Professor of the Mahatma Phule Adhyayan at the University of Pune and Vice President of the Bhandarkar Oriental Institute.
Narke was also a member of the Maharashtra State Backward Classes Commission.
