The Election Commissioner of India, Arun Goel, participated in an international conference "Preserving Information Integrity and Public Trust in Elections." held in Brasilia, Brazil during August 14-15, 2023 . It was hosted by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and Tribunal Superior Eleitoral, Brazil.
The two day conference witnessed participation from Election Management bodies, experts, and stakeholders from different countries to engage in discussions and exchange of ideas on critical issues related to maintaining the integrity of information in the context of elections and upholding public trust.
Election Commission of India
It is a constitutional body which was set up on 25 January 1950, under article 324 of the constitution .
It is the main body which conducts election of the President, Vice-Presiedent, Lok Sabha , Rajya Sabha ,State Legislative Assembly and the State Legislative Council .
It does not conduct elections of the Panchayats and the municipalities.
The Election Commission of India consists of the Chief Election Commissioner and two other members. The members of the Election Commission of India are called Election Commissioners .
