A four-day water sports tournament is being organised at the Tehri Lake situated in Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand from 14 to 17 September 2023.The water sports tournament was inaugurated by the Uttarakhand government’s cabinet minister Subodh Uniyal.
This is the second water sport tournament to be oragnised by the Tehri Hydro Development Corporation (THDC) in Tehri Lake .
Over 450 male and female players from 22 states are participating in the kayaking and canoeing sports event .
In the event, outstanding senior male and female players will be selected for the 37th Open National Games to be held in Goa.
The National Games in India is organsied by the Indian Olympic Association . The 37 National Games will be held in Goa in 2023 .
The 36th National Games was held in Gujarat from September 27 to October 10, 2022. Service Sports Control Board (SSCB) topped the medal tally for the fourth time.Service Sports Control Board (SSCB) is a combined team of the Indian Army, Navy and Air force .
The place where the present Tehri lake is situated was earlier the old Tehri town. The old Tehri town was situated at the confluence of Bhilangna and Bhagirathi rivers . The old Tehri town was submerged due to the construction of Tehri dam on Bhagirathi river. The dam created a large reservoir submerging the old Tehri town . The Uttarakhand government has converted the famous Tehri Lake into an Adventure Tourism. It includes many different and varied activities from Jet Skiing to Hot air balloon rides.
The state of Uttarakhand was formed as the 27th State of India on 9th November 2000. It was formed by separating the hilly areas of Uttar Pradesh.
It shares international boundaries with China (Tibet) in the north and Nepal in the east. On its north-west lies the state of Himachal Pradesh, while on the south is the state of Uttar Pradesh.
The state is also famous as God’s Land or Dev Bhoomi.
