16th Agricultural Science Congress concludes in Kochi

The 16th Agricultural Science Congress (ASC) organized by the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS) concluded in Kochi on 13 October 2023. The 16th ASC gathered more than 1500 delegates from India and abroad.

16th ASC Opening and Closing Ceremony:

Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Parshottam Rupala inaugurated the 16th Agricultural Science Congress on 10 October 2023 at Hotel Le Meridien, Kochi.
The four-day (10 to 13 October) 16th Agricultural Science Congress (ASC) gathered renowned agricultural economists, scientists, policy makers, academicians, farmers and entrepreneurs in Kochi.
The 16th ASC valedictory function was addressed by Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education and Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).

Objective of 16th ASC:

The 16th ASC aims to generate a scientific discussion about transforming India's agri-food systems into sustainable enterprises to facilitate its benefits for future generations.

10 thematic areas were discussed at the 16th ASC:

Ten thematic areas were discussed at the 16th Congress.
These topics include all issues related to agriculture and allied sectors and land and water, agricultural production systems, products, agricultural machinery, climate action, economics, renewable or alternative energy, precision farming, alternative agriculture, coastal agriculture, next generation technology systems.
A total of 114 papers were presented in the 16th Agricultural Science Congress.
The 16th ASC featured six lectures by prominent personalities from agriculture and allied sectors with a wide-ranging agenda.
The Congress also hosted three panel discussions and four seminars on various topics.

Agricultural Expo organized in 16th ASC:

Along with the program, an agricultural expo was organized in the 16th ASC.
This agricultural expo showcased innovative agricultural technologies from public and private sector research institutes, universities, agro-industries, extension agencies and NGOs.

Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR):

Established: July 16, 1929 (named Imperial Council of Agricultural Research).
Director General: Dr. Himanshu Pathak
ICAR is an autonomous institution under the Department of Agricultural Research and Education, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India.
ICAR is an apex body for coordination, guidance and research management and education in the field of agriculture including horticulture, fisheries and animal sciences in the country.
After bringing the Green Revolution in the country, ICAR has played an important role in the development of the country's agricultural sector through its research and technology development.
