60 Parachute Field Hospital in Uttar Pradesh has been selected for Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar-2024 for its excellent work in Disaster Management.
About Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar
- The Government of India has established an annual award named Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar which recognizes and honors the invaluable contribution and selfless service by individuals and organisations in India in the field of disaster.
- This award is announced every year on 23 January, the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
- In case of an institution, Rs 51 lakh in cash & a certificate and in the case of an individual, Rs 5 lakh in cash & a certificate are given as awards.
- India has made great improvements in disaster management practices, preparedness, mitigation and response mechanisms.
- Such improvement has resulted in a significant reduction in the number of deaths during natural disasters.
Selection Process
Online nominations were invited for this award for the year 2024 from July 1, 2023. In response to the Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar about 245 valid nominations were received from institutions and individuals.
Air medical unit of the Indian Armed Forces
- 60 Parachute Field Hospital, Uttar Pradesh was established in 1942. It is the only air medical establishment of the Indian Armed Forces. It is recognized for its extraordinary service in various global crises.
- The primary mission includes humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) operations during natural disasters at national and international levels, both in peace and war.
Notable works by Parachute Field Hospitals
- The unit provided medical assistance during the Uttarakhand floods (2013), Nepal earthquake under Operation 'Maitri' (2015) and Operation Samudra Maitri (2018) during the Indonesian tsunami.
- In February 2023, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Turkey and Syria, prompting a quick response from a 99-member team.
- Despite resource constraints and language barriers, they managed to establish India's first level-2 medical facility in Turkey's Hatay province.
- During the 12-day period of Operation Dost, they cared for 3,600 patients.
