SJVN Limited has entered into an agreement with the Indian Institute of Technology - Patna (IIT Patna) to use advanced geological models in its tunnelling projects.

Agreement signed between SJVN-IIT Patna:

  • The MoU was signed in the presence of AK Singh, Director (Finance), SJVN, and TN Singh, Director, IIT-Patna, in New Delhi on April 2, 2024. Many prominent persons from both sides were present on the occasion.

Benefits of the partnership between SJVN Limited and IIT Patna:

  • One of the key outcomes of this partnership will be the development of predictive analytics algorithms. These algorithms will take advantage of integrated geotechnical data to predict potential risks. It will provide early warning system specifically designed for tunnelling projects.
  • Such proactive measures are expected to significantly reduce time and cost during project implementation.
  • This partnership between the two organizations will significantly reduce the time and cost of completing a project.

Priority of MoU signed between SJVN-IIT Patna:

  • One of the priorities of the MoU signed between SJVN Limited and IIT Patna is to develop state-of-the-art methodology. It integrates diverse geotechnical data sources.
  • These will include geological surveys, borehole data, geophysical measurements and monitoring data related to SJVN's projects.

Objective of the MoU between SJVN-IIT Patna:

  • The objective of this collaboration is to evaluate the complex relationship between overburden and deformation. This will enhance the evaluation and design of critical support systems for tunnelling projects.
  • The aim is to identify and analyze potential risks and hazards using integrated geotechnical data and 3D geological models.

  • SJVN Limited is a Schedule-'A' Mini Ratna Category-I under the control of the Ministry of Power. It is a public sector undertaking.
  • SJVN was earlier known as ‘Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam’. It is an Indian public sector undertaking involved in hydropower generation and transmission.
