NITI Aayog and the Netherlands release report on LNG use in vehicles

NITI Aayog and the Embassy of the Netherlands in India released the report titled 'LNG as a transportation fuel in medium and heavy commercial vehicles' on 6 February 2024. This report was released during the celebration of India Energy Week 2024 in Goa.

The Netherlands has been cooperating with NITI Aayog since 2020:

NITI Aayog and the Netherlands are actively collaborating in the area of energy transition under a Statement of Intent partnership since 2020. This report has been issued as the first result of mutual cooperation between the two sides.
The report focuses on leveraging LNG as a fuel source and optimizing its use in the medium and commercial vehicle segment.
It examines the coordination issues faced by various stakeholders. Highlights what can be learned from other countries to address these challenges.
The Netherlands, like India, is making significant progress in the field of clean energy, with a primary focus on carbon reduction through a shift in energy sources.
It will leverage the Netherlands' expertise in the energy sector, to achieve international climate targets set in the 2015 Paris Agreement. There is a lot of scope for working with India's public and private sectors for this.

The Netherlands ahead in green hydrogen revolution:

The Netherlands is at the forefront of European initiatives to launch a green hydrogen revolution and replace fossil fuels. The Netherlands is the second largest hydrogen producer in Europe. Whereas China is the largest producer and consumer of hydrogen in the world.
The report highlights strategies that will help achieve the target of 15% gas share in primary energy supply and goal of Net Zero by 2070.
The report explores various challenges and barriers associated with LNG adoption in India and recommends a roadmap of actionable solutions.
NITI Aayog and the Netherlands Embassy plan to work together to strengthen their cooperation on sustainable development with a focus on circular economy besides transition to energy sources.
