The Central Government has approved the appointment of Nidhi S Jain (IA&AS) as the Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of Cotton Corporation of India Limited (CCI) with effect from 22 April 2024.

Nidhi Jain will remain as CVO of CCI for three years:

  • According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training on April 22, Nidhi Jain will hold her post as Chief Vigilance Officer of CCI for three years or Nidhi Jain has been appointed to the post for an initial period of three years from the date of assumption of charge or until further orders whichever is earlier.

About Nidhi S Jain:

  • Nidhi Jain is a 2009-batch Indian Audit and Accounts Service (IA&AS) officer.
  • Presently, Nidhi Jain is posted as Director of Audit (Department of Environment and Scientific), Branch Office, Mumbai.
  • Nidhi Jain has a Master's degree in Economics from GIPE, Pune. Nidhi Jain also has a CISA certificate.
  • Nidhi Jain is serving as Director of Audit (Department of Environment and Scientific), Branch Office, Mumbai since July 13, 2020. Prior to her current posting, she has handled various types of audits such as Civil, Receipts, Commercial, Defence. Nidhi Jain has also been assigned the United Nations audit assignment.

About Cotton Corporation of India Limited (CCI):

  • CCI was established in 1970 under the Companies Act 1956. The headquarters of CCI is located in Mumbai.
  • CCI is a corporate agency of the Government of India. CCI is engaged in diverse activities related to trading, procurement and export of cotton.
  • The Cotton Corporation of India is governed by the Textile Policy 1985 issued by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
  • The major role of Cotton Corporation of India is to conduct price support operations. Whenever the market prices of cotton fall below the Minimum Support Price (MSP).

  • Cotton is mainly a crop of tropical and subtropical regions. It requires uniformly high temperatures between 21°C and 30°C. When the temperature drops below 20°C the growth of cotton slows down.
  • Cotton is a drought-resistant crop that is ideal for dry climates. Cotton requires an average annual rainfall of 50 – 100 cm.
  • Cotton requires at least 210 frost-free days a year.
  • Cotton occupies only 2.1% of the world's cultivable land. Despite this, it fulfills 27% of the global demand for textiles. Apart from its fiber used in textiles and apparel, food products are also obtained from cotton such as edible oil and animal feed from the seeds.
  • India ranks as the world's second-largest cotton producer, following China.
