Construction of a 250-meter viaduct (2-lane) in conjunction with a 395-meter (2-lane) Maroge Tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir at an estimated cost of Rs 82 crore has been completed, a significant step for the economic development of the region.
Maroge Tunnel is situated along the Ramban to Banihal section of National Highway 44.
It is 645 meters long and is part of a larger project.
NOTE: The Banihal Pass is a high mountain pass in India, spanning the Pir Panjal Range, with a maximum elevation of 2,832 m (9,291 ft). It is a crucial link between the Kashmir Valley in Jammu and Kashmir, the outer Himalayas, and the southern plains.
It will shorten the travel distance by 200 meters, reducing steep gradients, and provide an alternative route bypassing the well-known Sita Ram Passi slide area.
Shinku-La Tunnel is a planned motorable tunnel linking Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul Valley and Ladakh’s Zanskar Valley in Northern India.
Atal Tunnel is 9.02 km long and runs under the ‘Rohtang Pass’ constructed on the Manali - Leh Highway.
