India swept away Bangladesh to win the Test series 2-0 and maintain their leadership at the World Test Championship table.
The Indian men’s cricket team, led by Rohit Sharma, displayed brilliant cricket to defeat Bangladesh by seven wickets in the Kanpur Test match(27 September -1 October 2024) despite two and a half days being lost due to rains and a bad outfield.
The rampaging Indian batsmen, who played aggressive cricket to make up for the lost time in the Test match, set many world records.
On the fifth and final day of the match, India scored the required 95 runs in just 17.2 overs to finish the match before tea.
Earlier, India defeated Bangladesh by 280 runs in the Chennai Test (19-22 September 2024) to go 1-0 up in the Test Series.
With the win in Chennai, India became the fifth country in the world to have won more Test matches than lost, after Australia, England, Pakistan, and South Africa.
Defying all odds, India beat bad weather and a shortage of time to defeat Bangladesh at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.
Due to rain and a bad outfield, only 35 overs were bowled in the first three days of the test match.
India, after winning the toss, inserted Bangladesh in, and the Bangladeshi team were 107 for 3 in 35 overs at the close of first day play.
There was no play on the second and the third day due to rain and a bad outfield.
On the fourth day, India bundled out Bangladesh 233 runs in 74.2 overs.
India started aggressively and scored 285 for 9 declared in just 34.4 overs, with a quick 72 runs (51 balls) from Yasashvi Jaiswal and 68 runs (43 balls) from K.L Rahul.
In the second innings Bangladesh was all out 146 runs in 46 overs. Jasprit Bumrah. Ravichnadran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets apiece.
Chasing a modest target of 95 runs, India scored 98 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in just 17.2 overs. Yashshavi Jaiswal scored another half-century in the match and scored 51 runs.
The aggressive batting displayed by India in the Kanpur Test also set many records.
Fastest to score 100 runs in Test matches - India's hundred came in just 10.1 overs. India broke their record of 100 runs in 12.2 overs scored against West Indies in 2023 at the Port of Spain Test.
Fastest to score 200 runs in an inning- India reached 200 marks in the first inning in 26.1 overs breaking the Australian record of 28.1 overs against Pakistan in the Sydney Test match of 2017.
Fastest team to score first 50 runs- India scored its first 50 runs in just 3 overs, breaking England's record of scoring 50 runs in 4.5 overs against West Indies in the Nottingham Test in 2024.
India overtook South Africa to become the fifth team in the world to have more Test match wins. India has played 581 test matches, won 180 and lost 178 Test matches.
Australia is the most successful team having won 414 test matches in 866 matches with 232 losses. After Australia is England with 397 wins, West Indies 183 matches.
