On March 11, 2024, Ashwani Kumar was elected unanimously the new chairman of the premier exporter body, the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO). He has replaced A Sakthivel.

Mr Ashwani Kumar, who is based in Jalandhar (Punjab), is a business entrepreneur in the engineering sector. He served as the Regional Chairman (Northern Region) of FIEO. 

Mr Ashwani Kumar has also been associated with various business forums in Jalandhar, such as its Focal Point Industries Association, Effluent Treatment Society, Management Association, Badminton Association, Integrated Association of SMEs, and Doaba Airport Association. 

Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO)

The Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) was established in 1965 as an Apex Body of Export Promotion Organisations. 

It is registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1860 and has its Headquarters in Delhi. 

FIEO has Regional Offices in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata.

Its Chapters are  in Jaipur, Kanpur, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Ahmedabad, Indore, Hyderabad, Kochi, Bangalore, Coimbatore, Bhubaneswar, Ranchi and Guwahati. 

Function of FIEO

  • FIEO plays a crucial role in bringing together the international trading community of India, the Central and State Governments, and all bodies that facilitate export trade, such as financial institutions, ports, railways, and surface transport. 
  • It serves on the high-level committees constituted by the Government of India to facilitate trade and provides vital input to the Government on various trade matters.
  • FIEO helps the state government prepare an export strategy 

Trade Statistics of India (April 2023 -January 2024)

According to the Union Ministry of Commerce, the total exported merchandise goods from India was $ 353 billion.

  • The total merchandise import during the period was $561.12 billion. 
  • The total merchandise trade deficit during the period was  - $207.20 Billion,
  • The total service sector export during the period was $284.45 billion.
  • The total service sector import during the period was $147.68 billion 
  • The trade surplus in the service sector was  $136.77 billion 
  • Overall exports( goods and services) from India were USD 638.37 Billion
  • The overall import(goods and services)  of India was $ 708.79 Billion,
