According to reports, Microsoft and OpenAI are collaborating on a massive data centre project that could potentially cost up to $100 billion. The project aims to develop an artificial intelligence supercomputer called "Stargate."

About "Stargate”

Companies Microsoft and OpenAI plan to build a series of supercomputers over the next six years. They aim to create the largest supercomputer, funded by Microsoft, which will cost about 100 times more than the biggest existing data centres.
The proposed Stargate project is expected to launch in 2028, following OpenAI's major AI upgrade in early 2022.
The project could cost up to $100 billion, according to people involved in private discussions with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and others who viewed Microsoft's initial cost estimates.
The supercomputers are being divided into five phases, with Stargate as the fifth and current focus. Currently, a smaller fourth-phase supercomputer is in development and planned to launch in 2026. To complete the remaining phases, a significant amount of the cost will go towards purchasing necessary AI chips.

About ChatGPT

OpenAI created ChatGPT, a chatbot that was launched on November 30, 2022. ChatGPT uses a large language model that helps users guide conversations to their preferred length, format, style, detail level, and language.
At each conversation stage, known as prompt engineering, ChatGPT considers successive prompts and replies as context.
