CLAT 2021 Exam Date released

CLAT examination 2021 will now be held on 23 July, 2021 from 2 pm to 4 pm in offline mode. Earlier the exams were postponed by the Consortium of National Law University with an official notification. CLAT exam date 2021 was scheduled to be conducted on June 13, 2021. But due to the unprecedented spike in the Covid-19 cases and the clash with CBSE Board exam schedules, the CLAT examination 2021 date were put off until further notice.

Applicants have been given a chance to change their preference of test centres even after the last date of submission of the filled-in application to avoid long travels.

Furthermore, the last date of the CLAT 2021 registration form was extended till June 15, 2021.

June 15, 2021 : CLAT 2021 exams will now be held on 23rd July 2021 in pen and paper mode.

What is CLAT?

CLAT stands for Common Law Admission Test. It is a national-level online entrance exam to get admission into 22 law institutions offering UG and PG courses in India.

Apart from these institutions, CLAT exam scores are also considered as the benchmark for admission into many private as well as self-financed law colleges in India.

Some NLU’s offer domicile reservations for admission. Public organisations like BHEL and ONGC use the CLAT-PG scores for their legal recruitments.

It is to be noted that the CLAT examination 2021 notification was released by NLU Consortium on December 26, 2020. CLAT 2021 registration form will be open till June 15, 2021, while the CLAT exam date remains postponed.

Age limit : No fixed Upper Age Limit

Educational Qualification: 10+2 or Equivalent

Please note: Candidates appearing in the qualifying exam in the month of March or April 2021 will also be able to apply.

How to apply for CLAT Examination 2021?

Candidates can follow the given steps to apply for CLAT Examination 2021

Step 1:

Go to the official website of the Consortium of NLU since the application is completely online.

Step 2: Enter your email address and phone number to register.

Make sure to use a valid email address and phone number as the OTP for validation will be sent here.

Step 3:

After your phone number has been validated, login using the phone number and password that you have created.

Step 4:

Fill in all the required basic and personal details carefully. You will have to select your preferences among the 22 national law universities in this step.

Note here that the name you will enter in the CLAT 2021 registration form should be the same as it appears in all your documents. Any mismatch in the name can result in disqualification.

Step 5:

None of these details can be changed after you have successfully submitted your CLAT 2021 registration form. Therefore, Recheck the entered information before pressing on the submit button to avoid any mistake.

Step 6:

Upload all the required documents.

Step 7:

Pay the application fees through online payment options like Net Banking/Credit Card/Debit Card/UPI.

The payment for CLAT 2021 registration form can only be done through their payment portal.

What is the CLAT examination 2021 Pattern?

CLAT 2021 exam is conducted for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels.

UG CLAT 2021 Exam Pattern

The UG paper of CLAT examination 2021 will have FIVE sections:

The Legal Reasoning section was especially lengthy in the CLAT 2020 exam.

Number of questions: Last year, the highest number of questions were asked from the legal reasoning section and current affairs while the Quantitative Techniques had the lowest number of questions.

Q. What are the documents required during the Application form procedure?

Ans. The document that the candidate will need to submit during CLAT 2021 registration form are as given below:

  • Recent Passport size photo of the candidate with a white background.
  • Signature of candidate
  • Documents to verify Educational qualification
  • BPL Certificate (If Applicable)
  • PWD Certificate (If Applicable)

Ans. According to the CLAT Consortium, Bar Council of India, CLAT 2021 will be conducted in offline or pen-paper mode this year.

Q. What is the minimum cut off marks defined by National Law University for CLAT 2021?

Ans. Cut off marks for CLAT examination 2021 will vary for different NLU’s. As per the margin and previous year, the minimum cut off marks this year will be between 105-110 out of 200 (tentative). It may vary for the SC/ST category candidates.

Q. How to retrieve password for CLAT 2021 Admit Card?

Ans. If a candidate forgets his/her password at the time of downloading the CLAT 2021 admit card, the following steps can be followed to recover the password:

Step 1:

Click on the ‘Forgot Password’ button at the bottom of the login window for CLAT 2021 Admit Card.

Step 2:

A new page will open. Enter their registered mobile number here.

Step 3:

Click on the “Request OTP” button. An OTP will be sent to the mobile number you registered while filling the registration form.

Step 4:

Enter your mobile number, OTP  as received on the registered mobile number and the new password.

Step 5:

Click on the Reset Password button.

It will successfully generate a new password.

Q. What are the changes that were there in the CLAT 2020 exam?

Ans. Due to the pandemic, CLAT 2020 Exam Pattern was slightly altered. As a result, the total number of questions were reduced to 150 and the mode of conduction was shifted online.

Q. Will the CLAT 2021 be conducted in languages other than English?

Ans. Although, news reports suggest that the Bar Council is looking into introducing vernacular languages as medium of instruction in the future; there are no such updates till now. Till now, the medium of instruction is in English only.

Q. How is a tiebreaker decided in CLAT UG?

Ans. In CLAT UG, the tie break will be decided based on  age, marks obtained in the legal aptitude section and computerised draw of lots.

Q. What will happen if I apply for CLAT more than once?

Q. Can Engineering graduates apply for CLAT PG?

Ans. As per the CLAT exam eligibility criteria, engineering graduates cannot apply for CLAT PG.

However, they can apply for the CLAT UG program since they have the minimum qualification of 10+2 provided that they have a minimum percentage of 45% for Gen/OBC/PWD/NRI/PIO/OCI and 40% for SC/ST.

Q. Is AILET or CLAT more difficult?

Ans. Although the Exam Pattern is very similar; the acceptance rate for AILET is low as the number of seats are very limited. Therefore it is significantly more difficult than CLAT.

Q. What is the acceptance rate for top NLUs?

Ans. The acceptance rate for the NLUs is only around 3% every year, 70,000 to 75,000 students register for CLAT exam, out of which only 2,175 seats in all the NLUs are filled.

Q. I did science in 12th standard. Is CLAT a good option for me?

Ans. CLAT can be a good option for any students who are interested in Law regardless of the stream.

Q. How much preparation is required to get into a top NLU?

Ans. Generally, 8-16 months of preparation is required to qualify and to score well in the CLAT examination. But the time period totally depends on the student.

It will depend on their intelligence, hard work and knowledge in the field.
