Indian Navy is considered to be the Naval Branch of the Indian Armed Forces under the President of India. The First Squadron of fighting ships called East India Company’s marine arrived on 5 September 1612. The primary objective of Indian Navy is to identify the threat or any other issues from the sea. Indian Navy has 67,228 personnel, 137 ships and 235 aircraft at present. It has its own defence operations to protect the nation from any enemy forces.

Recruitment Process

Recruitment into the Navy is carried out on the basis of All India Merit. A written examination is conducted by UPSC, which determines the Selection for Permanent Commission through NDA/NA cadet and CDSE (Graduate). This is followed by an interview by the Service Selection Board (SSB). For all other Permanent Commission entries and Short Service Commission entries, there is no written examination. Instead, the shortlist of applicants is created as per the criteria laid down by the Naval Headquarters. The number of uniformed personnel recruited depends on the number of eligible applicants who were able to qualify in the written test, interview and medical examination. No distinction is made on the basis of gender/religion/caste/creed/region either during recruitment or at any point in time thereafter.
