Anurag Thakur Launches Asian Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championship Sport 1 min read

The Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Singh Thakur inaugurated the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championship 2023 on 27 July 2023. This competition is being organized for the first time in India at Gautam Buddha University, Greater Noida and will be held from 27 July -5 August 2023.

More than  200 athletes from 15  Asian countries including more than 30 weightlifters from India are participating in this competition.

  • The first gold medal for India was won by Siddhant Gogoi in the men's 61 kg junior.

  • Bedbrat Bharali won  the second gold medal for India in the  men's 67kg title.

Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships

  • The Asian Weightlifting Federation (AWF) is a non-profit organization made up of 45 affiliated national federations from all Asian countries.

  • The AWF is the official governing body for the sport of weightlifting in Asia.
