The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) was suspended just three days after it was created. Sanjay Singh, a loyalist of former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, leads the WFI. The suspension happened because the WFI violated the provisions of the National Games.
- The Sports Ministry has also decided to put a stay on all the decisions taken by Sanjay Singh while cancelling the wrestling association.
Why was the decision taken -
- The Sports Ministry suspended Sanjay Singh, the new president of the federation. This happened after he announced the organisation of national wrestling competitions for the under-15 and under-20 age groups.
- After being created President of the Indian Wrestling Federation, Sanjay Singh announced plans to organise a national competition for the under-15 and under-20 age groups in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh.
- The ministry announced the competition hastily. The wrestlers were not given any prior information.
- The Ministry said that such decisions are taken by the Executive Committee of the Federation, before which such agenda needs to be placed for consideration.
Request to form an ad-hoc committee for the functioning of the Wrestling Federation:
- The government requested the Indian Olympic Association to form an ad-hoc committee to look into the functioning of the Indian Wrestling Federation.
Temporary or ad-hoc committee:
- An ad-hoc committee is formed for a specific purpose and ceases to exist after the work is completed. These are of two types-
- Investigation Committees: To investigate any immediate incident.
- Advisory Committees: To consider any bill, etc.
