SBI chairman Dinesh Khara's tenure has been extended till August 2024 by the government of India . The Appointment Committee of the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 5 2023, has extended the tenure of the State Bank of India (SBI) Chairman Dinesh Khara for a period beyond October 2023 till he attains 63 years of age.
Dinesh Kahra will now retire on August 28 2024.
The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet consists of the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister. The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet has also extended the tenure of SBI MD Ashwini Tewari for a period of two years.
Dinesh Khara joined SBI as a probationary officer in 1984 and was appointed the SBI's chairman on October 7, 2020, for three years. As per norms, the SBI chairman can hold the position till the age of 63.
Dinesh Khara has wide experience across all verticals of banking, such as Retail Credit, SME and Corporate Credit, deposit mobilisation, international banking operations and branch management.
