The Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah paid tribute to the martyred soldiers at the National Police Memorial in New Delhi on the occasion of 'Police Memorial Day' on 21 October 2023.

On this occasion, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in his address, paid tribute to 36,250 policemen who have made sacrifices for the security of the country's internal and borders since independence.

188 policemen sacrificed their lives in last one year:

In the last 1 year from September 01, 2022 to August 31, 2023, 188 policemen have made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty to maintain the security and law and order of the country.
In the last decade, terrorism, extremist attacks, Naxalism and ethnic violence have declined by 65 percent from their peak due to the brave policemen.

The Government of India is going to make 3 new criminal laws:

The Government of India is bringing 3 new criminal laws, which will radically change the criminal justice system of the country.
These 3 new laws, which will replace almost 150 years old laws made during the British era, will not only reflect Indianness but will also protect the rights of every citizen in the spirit of our Constitution.
We will be successful in achieving the goal we have set to bring transparency and speed in the criminal justice system through the Police Technology Mission, 3 new laws and ICJS.

Establishment of ‘Police Technology Mission’:

The government has maintained its zero tolerance policy against terrorism by enacting strict laws and has worked towards becoming the best anti-terrorism force in the world by setting up the 'Police Technology Mission' for modernizing the police.

Efforts being made by the government for the welfare of policemen:

For the welfare of police personnel, efforts have also been made to make timely changes in Ayushman-CAPF, Housing Scheme, CAPF e-Awas Web Portal, Prime Minister Scholarship Scheme, Central Ex-gratia, Disability Ex-gratia, Air Courier Services and Central Police Welfare Store.

On October 21, 1959, 10 brave police personnel sacrificed their lives in an attack by an armed Chinese contingent in the Hot Spring area of Ladakh.
