Karnataka's M.Raghu and Haryana’s Devika Sihag won the men’s and women’s singles title respectively, at the 86th Senior National Badminton Championships 2024.
The 86th Senior National Badminton Championships was organised by the Badminton Association of India and hosted by Karnataka Badminton Association in Bengaluru, Karnataka from 20-24 December 2024.
Before the Senior National Badminton Championship, the 77th Inter Zonal Badminton Championship was organised by the Badminton Association of India in Bengaluru on 18 & 19 December 2024. The Inter Zonal Badminton Championships is a team event while the Senior National Badminton Championship is a singles /doubles and mixed doubles events.
In the 77th Inter-Zonal Badminton Championships 2024, the men’s title was won by Karnataka while Haryana won the women’s title.
In the final Karnataka team defeated Railways 3-1 to bag the Ibrahim Rahimtoola Cup. It was the second title for Karnataka after a gap of 47 years.
In the women’s final Haryana beat Gujarat 3-2 in the final to lift the Gulab Rai Chadha Cup.
M Raghu who represented Karnataka in the 86th Senior National Badminton Championship was not ranked high enough to gain a direct entry into the draw. The host Karnataka Badminton Association gave him one of the two extra spots reserved for the host.
En route to the final M Raghu defeated top seed Sathish Kumar in the semi-finals. In the final M Raghu defeated former champion Mithun Manjunath of Karnataka 14-21, 21-14, 24-22 to win his first senior national championship.
19-year-old Devika Sihag of Haryana won her first senior National Badminton Championships by defeating Telangana’s Shriyanshi Valishetty 21-15, 21-16. The 12th-seeded Valishetty defeated last year's champions Anmol Kharb and Tasnim Mir before progressing to the final.
