Indian Army launches Operation Sarvashakti to wipe out terrorists from Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

About Sarvashakti

The operation named Sarvashakti aims to conduct coordinated counter-terrorism operations from both sides of the Pir Panjal mountain ranges.

  • The Srinagar-based Chinar Corps (also known as XV Corps or 15 Corps) and the Nagrota-headquartered White Knight Corps (also known as XVI Corps or 16 Corps) will work together to carry out simultaneous operations.
  • The Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF, Special Operations Group, and intelligence agencies will collaborate closely to prevent Pakistani attempts to revive terrorism in the Union Territory, particularly in the Rajouri-Poonch sector.
  • The focus of Sarvashakti will be on locating terrorists' hideouts in the dense jungles, mountains, and caves scattered throughout the area. It is suspected that those who carried out ambushes on security forces in the Rajouri-Poonch area in 2023 are hiding in these areas.
  • This operation is taking place against the backdrop of the strained relationship between India and Pakistan.
  • India accuses Pakistan of supporting and harboring terrorist groups that operate against the country. India claims that terrorist organizations like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), which have been involved in attacks against Indian security forces and civilians, have been receiving support from Pakistan.
  • The Sarvashakti operation is similar to Operation Sarp Vinash of 2003, which was launched against terrorists in the Surankote area of Pir Panjal range.
  • The operation lasted approximately three months, during which nearly 100 terrorists were killed, and a large number of stores and equipment, including some medical ones, were recovered.
