Vimarsh 2023, a National Hackathon on 5G technology use for police, was launched by the Director General of Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPR&D) Shri Balaji Srivastava.

About Vimarsh 2023 

India is keen on building a Cyber Safe India is one of the top priorities of the Ministry of Home Affairs. 

  • The Government of India is trying to augment the technology prowess for Law Enforcement Agencies and also creating a cyber- safe country as cyber security became an essential aspect of security related affairs, internationally.
  • BPR&D has been nominated by the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Centre of Excellence for the purpose of 5G application use cases within MHA. 
  • Purpose of A Hackathon on 5G: Developing tools for addressing the challenges and issues being faced by Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs).
  • Hackathon was launched with 9 Problem Statements where the Department of Telecom (DOT) with its subsidiary Telecom Centre of Excellence (TCOE) have joined hands with BPR&D to conduct Hackathon with students, startups & MSMEs. 

The Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPR&D) comes under the Ministry of Home Affairs. 

What is 5G?

  • In 5G G stands for generation. 
  • 5G came after 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G networks enabled a new kind of network that is designed to connect virtually everyone and everything together including objects, machines, and devices.
  • Key features: 
    • Higher multi-Gbps peak data speeds, 
    • ultra low latency,
    • massive network capacity, 
    • more reliability, 
    • a more uniform user experience, 
    • increased availability.
