Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, virtually inaugurated the 6th edition of India Steel 2025, being held in Mumbai, Maharashtra, on April 24, 2025. The 6th edition of India Steel is being held in Mumbai from 24 to 26 April 2025. 

Union Minister of Steel and Heavy Industries H.D. Kumaraswamy and Minister of State for Steel and Heavy Industries Bhupathi Raju Srinivasa Varma were present during the inaugural session of India Steel 2025.

The first India Steel exhibition cum conference was organised in 2013.

The 5th edition of India Steel was held in Mumbai from 19 to 21 April 2023. 

Who organised the India Steel Exhibition cum Conference 2025?

  • The India Steel exhibition-cum-conference was organised by the Union Ministry of Steel in collaboration with the Federation of India Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

Theme of the India Steel 2025

  • The theme of India Steel 2025 was "Shaping the Future of Steel: Driving Capacity Augmentation, Sustainability, Digitalisation, and Downstream Applications."

About the India Steel 

The India Steel 2025 is a mega exhibition-cum-conference on the Indian steel industry. It has emerged as the main platform for exhibiting key priorities in steel production, equipment manufacturers and solution suppliers and working out a strategy for the steel industry's future development.

It brings together the government, captains of the steel industry, and steel industry professionals from India and abroad.

In the 6th India Steel conference, over 250 exhibitors from 15 countries are participating.

National Steel Policy and Status of India 

  • After China, India is the second-largest producer of crude steel in the world. 
  • Between April and December 2024, India's crude steel production reached 110.99 million tonnes.
  • After Australia, Brazil, and China, India is the fourth-largest iron ore-producing country in the world.
  • India is the largest producer of Sponge iron in the world.

Steel Policy 2017

The Government of India announced the New Steel Policy in 2017 to make India a hub of the global steel industry.

It set certain targets for the steel industry.

  • Steel production capacity of 300 million tonnes of steel per year by 2030.
  • Per capita steel consumption in the country will be increased to 160 Kgs per year by 2030.

The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) is one of the oldest and largest business organisations in India.
