The NITI Aayog hosted a hybrid webinar on "Accelerating Progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)" at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre. The webinar was co-hosted by the Institute for Human Development (IHD), the Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP), and UNDP India. The webinar was organized around the G20 New Delhi Leaders Declaration (NDLD), which would focus on accelerating progress on the SDGs. The NDLD lays out paths for nations to follow on their route to attaining the SDGs. The Government of India's key agency for coordinating the adoption and monitoring of SDGs at the national and sub-national levels is NITI Aayog. 

G20 New Delhi Leaders' Declaration (NDLD)

  • During the G20 Summit in Delhi on September 9-10, 2023, the G20 Leaders approved the G20 New Delhi Leaders' Declaration (NDLD). 
  • One of the NDLD's primary themes was steps to achieve Strong, Sustainable, Balanced, and Inclusive Growth (SSBIG).
  • The G20 New Delhi Leaders Declaration (NDLD) was unanimously adopted by all G20 nations. 
  • It addressed some of the most critical issues affecting the global economy while also providing policy direction for a future based on people-centered values and trust-based partnerships. 
  • The G20 Leaders' Declaration in New Delhi has provided momentum at the international, national, and sub-national levels to set a course for accelerating progress and results on the 17 SDGs.

NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India)

  • The National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) was established on January 1, 2015. 
  • NITI Aayog is the Government of India's primary organisation for coordinating the adoption and monitoring of SDGs at the national and sub-national levels.

About G20

  • The Group of Twenty (G20) is an international forum made up of 19 nations plus the European Union (EU).
  • In response to many global economic crises, the G20 was formed in 1999.

    • 19 nations (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, Russia, Australia, Canada, Saudi Arabia, India, South Africa, Turkey, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, China, and Indonesia)

  • G20 Now G21:
    • The G20 leaders decided to admit the African Union as a permanent member of the G20.
    • It is a significant step towards expanding developing-country participation in the conference.
    • The AU's G20 participation presents a chance to transform international investment, commerce, and finance while also giving the Global South a stronger voice.
  • The G20 organisation does not have a permanent secretariat.
  • The President of G20 is chosen through a rotating mechanism among the member countries.
