Dr. Mohan Yadav took oath as the new Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh on 13 December 2023 at the Motilal Nehru Stadium in Bhopal. Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangubhai Chhaganbhai Patel administered him the oath of office and secrecy.

In Madhya Pradesh, two Deputy Chief Ministers, Jagdish Deora and Rajendra Shukla, took an oath of office. Jagdish Deora is currently the MLA from Malhargarh assembly seat of Mandsaur. While Rajendra Shukla is MLA from the Rewa assembly seat.

  • Apart from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda and Chief Ministers and other leaders of BJP-ruled states were present at the swearing-in ceremony of Mohan Yadav.
  • Bharatiya Janata Party has nominated Narendra Singh Tomar as the Speaker of the newly elected 16th Legislative Assembly of Madhya Pradesh. Narendra Singh Tomar will be the first Speaker from the Gwalior-Chambal region.

About Mohan Yadav:

  • Mohan Yadav was born in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, on March 25, 1965.
  • The name of Mohan Yadav (58) was agreed upon in the Bharatiya Janata Party Legislative Party meeting on 11 December 2023.
  • Mohan Yadav was elected MLA from Ujjain South seat for the first time in 2013. Mohan Yadav retained the assembly seat in 2018 and again in 2023.
  • Mohan Yadav belongs to the Other Backward Class (OBC) community, which accounts for more than 48 per cent of the state's population.

Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh:

  • The first Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh was Pandit Ravi Shankar Shukla (Congress Party).
  • The Chief Minister who held the charge of Chief Minister for the shortest period (13 days) in Madhya Pradesh is Naresh Chandra (then Pusaur Assembly seat of Chhattisgarh). 
  • Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has held the charge of Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh for the longest time (more than 16 years). Shivraj Singh Chauhan held the post of Chief Minister of the state four times.

16th Assembly Elections of Madhya Pradesh (2023):

  • The Election Commission had released the notification for the 16th Assembly elections (2023) in Madhya Pradesh on October 21.
  • Voting was held here on 17 November 2023.
  • The counting of votes was done on 3 December 2023 and the election results were also released on the same day.
  • 16th MP Assembly elections were held for a total of 230 seats.
  • In this, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) got 163 seats, Congress got 66 seats and others got 1 seat.
