India test-fired first 1500 HP tank engine at BEML, Mysuru

The first indigenously manufactured engine for the Army's main battle tanks was successfully tested at BEML Mysuru on 20 March 2024. The capacity of this engine is 1500 horsepower. The Defence Ministry has called it the beginning of a new era. This test was conducted under the chairmanship of Defence Secretary Giridhar Armane.

In the second phase of production, BEML will produce engines for various trials at DRDO's laboratory Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment. They will also be installed in actual vehicles for user testing.
The project is likely to be completed by mid-2025. Launched in August 2020, the project has been carefully planned with five phases. It has been ensured to complete it on time by following all the quality standards.
