In a notification issued on August 3,2023 by the Department of Personnel and Training,Government of India, the term of the Union Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba has been extended by one year for the third time in a row.
The Appointment Committee of the Union Cabinet granted him the extension till 30 August 2024.
Former Union home secretary Rajiv Gauba was appointed as the Cabinet secretary in 2019 for a period of 2 years. Since 2019 the government of India has granted him three annual consecutive extensions after relaxing the All India Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958, and Rule 56(d) of the Fundamental Rule.
Rajiv Gauba is a 1982 IAS officer of the Jharkhand cadre. He was born in Punjab and graduated in Physics from Patna
University . After a successful tenure as the Chief Secretary of Jharkhand for 15 months, he returned to serve in the central government in 2016.
