CJI inaugurates Ayush Holistic Wellness Center in SC premises Agreements and MoU 5 min read

Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud inaugurated the 'AYUSH Holistic Wellness Centre' (AYUSH WHC) in the Supreme Court premises on 22 February 2024. On this occasion, AYUSH Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Minister of State for AYUSH Munjpara Mahendrabhai were also present.

Agreement between the SC and the All India Institute of Ayurveda:

  • On the occasion, an MoU was also signed between the Supreme Court and the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA). This agreement will enable the establishment, operation and provision of specialist services at an AYUSH holistic wellness centre.

Ayush Holistic Wellness Center in SC Campus:

  • The AYUSH WHC is a state-of-the-art facility in the Supreme Court Complex.
  • It provides holistic care for physical, mental and emotional well-being.
  • It promotes the overall health of the judges and staff of the Supreme Court.
  • This facility has been set up under the aegis of the Ministry of AYUSH with the active participation of All India Institute of Ayurveda.
  • The Ayush Wellness Center in the Supreme Court Complex is an initiative of the Supreme Court of India in collaboration with AIIA under the Ministry of AYUSH.
  • All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) has expanded its centers at many places like LABSNA, Safdarjung, IIT etc.
  • In this sequence, a holistic and integrated welfare center is also being opened for the judiciary, judges and other employees of the SC.

About AYUSH Health and Wellness Center (AYUSH WHC):

  • The Central Government has included AYUSH WHC, part of Ayushman Bharat, in the National AYUSH Mission (NAM).
  • Initially, under this scheme of the Central Government, 12,500 AYUSH WHC will be operated across the country in five years (financial year 2019-20 to 2023-24).
  • A total expenditure of Rs 3399.35 crore will be incurred in this scheme, out of which Rs 2209.58 crore will be given by the Central Government and Rs 1189.77 crore will be given by the State Governments.
  • Under this, the Ministry of AYUSH will operate 12,500 AYUSH WHC in the country in collaboration with concerned ministries. For this, the Ministry of AYUSH has proposed two models:
    • Upgrading the existing AYUSH dispensaries (about 10,000).
    • Upgrading existing sub-health centers (about 2,500).

About All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA):

  • All India Institute of Ayurveda is a public Ayurveda medical and research institute of India located in Delhi. It was established on 7 February 2016.
  • AIIA aims to empower students with the basic tools to approach the science of Ayurveda in a structured manner. This will enable them to have knowledge of the subject matter of Ayurveda literature. This will enable them to adopt it in their clinical practice to serve the society.

Objectives of AIIA:

  • To educate students about the basic concepts of Ayurveda.
  • To develop a language lab where the fundamentals of Sanskrit and various other regional and international languages can be explored for the purpose of its scientific investigation.
  • To develop a Manuscript Unit for study and research on those original manuscripts which are still lying unexplored.
